Senior Taylor Steele ran for cover.

Rain started pouring down on the graduating class of 2014, and the stadium was emptying fast.

“It was a little funny; it certainly makes it much more memorable. Nobody knew if they should go inside, but then everyone just ran back in,” Steele said. “It was pretty chaotic.”

Naperville North postponed tonight’s graduation ceremony until the scheduled rain date, May 28. Lightning prompted the decision, according to Naperville Community Television.

Naperville Central also postponed their graduation ceremony until tomorrow. Both ceremonies will commence at 7 p.m. In the case of inclement weather, graduation will be moved indoors to the Field House and Contest Gym.

Each senior received five tickets to be used if inclement weather once again prevents an outdoor ceremony, according to senior yearbook editor-in-chief Clare Shannon. Two tickets allow guests to see the graduation live in the Field House, and the remaining three give guests the opportunity to watch the ceremony live-streamed in  the Contest Gym.

However, graduation is not the only rescheduled end-of-the-year event. The yearbook distribution party will now take place at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, Shannon said.

In the meantime, the graduating seniors are ready to dry off.

“I just hope everyone’s hats aren’t ruined,” Steele said. “My dad is trying to salvage mine now.”
