Breaking News: extreme weather conditions cause school closures

Extreme temperatures and sub-zero wind chills prompted District 203 to cancel classes once again at all district schools tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 8.

All morning activities and athletic practices scheduled for Thursday morning are also cancelled. Naperville North has yet to announce whether after-school activities and athletics will take place.

The National Weather Service issued a wind chill advisory for DuPage County until 12 p.m. tomorrow. Wind chill values are expected to plummet 25 to 30 degrees below zero during this time. Frostbite can occur within minutes on exposed skin.

More than 30 school districts also cancelled school tomorrow, according to ABC7 Chicago. Local school districts such as Naperville’s District 204, Lisle’s District 202 and the Chicago Public School System will all close school for the day.

The National Weather Service also predicted light and blowing snow Thursday afternoon and evening. The conditions may decrease visibilities and lead to travel difficulties.
