Downtown Naperville prepares for holiday season

Production by Multimedia Managing Editor Jakob Wastek

On Friday, Nov. 7, Naperville continued its tradition of draping the trees and buildings in the downtown area with over 300,000 holiday lights, according to the downtown Naperville website. That evening, the people of Naperville and other nearby cities gathered as the lights illuminated the town to celebrate the coming Thanksgiving and holiday season.

When checking out the Instagram-worthy scene, I recommend standing on the corner of Jefferson St. and Main St. to receive the full effect of what downtown Naperville now has to offer. The weekend was also full of events including early bird holiday sales throughout local businesses, including downtown Naperville’s newest additions: J.Jill and Frost Gelato.

Also on that evening, another Naperville tradition unveiled itself. This year, local businesses like Little Luxuries to students from Highlands Elementary School, Naperville Central High School and Naperville North High School, sponsored 17 hand-painted train sculptures. The city is holding a vote for the community’s favorite sculpture, which will be awarded a prize in January. Voting ends on Dec. 31.
