Naperville North High School’s art department gave students an opportunity to display their artwork from throughout the semester at Portfolio Night on Thursday, April 24 at NNHS. Featured artwork included work by photography and graphic arts students, along with a variety of other mediums.
Arts department teacher Chris Seger took part in putting together the Portfolio Night.
“We have a winter art show, and a spring art show. And we have built up some good quality work by the spring time,” Seger said.
According to Seger, Portfolio Night helps to showcase artwork by students in many different types of art classes.
“A couple years ago, Mr. Hayes approached me about combining their portfolio night with our spring art show so now both graphic art students and fine art students can show their artwork out on the tables, [during] what we call a portfolio night,” Seger said.
By featuring different types of art, more students were able to showcase their work at this year’s show. Seger attributes this to art department teacher Tim Brodeur.
“[Brodeur] came up with the idea of making it a miniature art show so that more students could have their work in the art show,” said Seger.
Artists from different companies came to see the artwork on display.
“Real people from industries come in and give students feedback and critiques. They’re people from ad agencies and from photo studios,” Seger said.
Junior Danielle Przybysz, who displayed her art graphic art, enjoyed showing her work at the show.
“I want to go study [graphics] in college. I think it’s cool to get out there and show your work to actual companies and people,” Przybysz said.
