The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part II ★★☆☆☆
By Mila Koleva
The long-awaited finale of the Twilight saga has arrived. Breaking Dawn Part II premiered November 15, 2012, four years after the first Twilight movie was released.
This fifth movie nicely wraps up the insane relationship between Bella (human) and Edward (vampire), finalizing their struggles to stay together through hardships and long distances.
In the first part of Breaking Dawn, Bella and Edward marry, and go on a honey moon where Bella becomes pregnant with a half-human-half-vampire baby. The baby drains the life out of her, but Bella gives birth in the end, losing her life in the process. However, near death, Edward saves her by biting her and turning her into a vampire. Part I of Breaking Dawn began as Bella was transformed, and her new life with her child and as a vampire. However, the baby girl seemed to pose a threat to the entire vampire society, thickening the plot.
As an adaptation from a book, the movie followed the novel almost perfectly — except a major twist in the final minutes of the film. The grand finale was unbelievable and not in the book at all. I am unsure if that part in the movie was necessary. I think it was just Hollywood trying to make the movie more “epic” than it needed to be.
I was rather surprised that Kristen Stewart’s infamous “expressionless” acting had improved a bit, making Bella’s emotions come to life more when she talking about her child being a threat.
However, I gave this movie two stars because I wasn’t impressed by the ending. Nothing in the movie was of value. The plot is vapid, the characters even more so, and I couldn’t help but laugh at certain points because the movie was so ridiculous.
So, is it worth the 7-or-so-dollars to see it? No.
Is it worth watching it at home with your friends and laughing your heads off? Definitely.
