Country music’s bad. It really is.

For everyone’s information…my dogs are real annoying

By Logan Bradley

Taylor Swift won CMA’s entertainer of the year over Brad Paisley?! …First of all, I have no idea who Brad Paisley is, and second of all, the only reason I’m well aware of Taylor Swift is because of her amazing attractiveness, one of the few bright spots of country music one might say. On November 9th, Facebook was blowing up with status updates on the 2011 Country Music Awards, which reminded me, I cannot stand to listen to country music. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think I’m the only one who shares that feeling.

So before I get into explaining in full detail just how much I dislike country music I’ll say this, don’t read this if you’re a banjo-playing, cowboy boot-wearing, country music fanatic, because it will disappoint you.

All too many times I’ve heard my sister, Kelly say, “Just listen to it, you’ll like it eventually”. Well Kelly, I’ve been listening to bits and pieces over the last 18 years of my life and still haven’t gained even the slightest liking for the genre. I just don’t think I’ll ever understand why listening to middle aged men’s voice crack while singing about cold beer and the good old days back on the ranch is appealing. I understand that is a huge stereotype of country music but nine times out of ten it’s something along those lines.

Just so you can gauge my unwillingness to listen to country music, I’ve created a list of 5 things I would rather do than listen to country music.

  1. Watch The View.
  2. Read the phone book.
  3. Sit through an entire WNBA game.
  4. Watch paint dry.
  5. Hang out with Alex Moss’ dogs.

Now maybe I’m being slightly unfair. I will admit there are plenty of country artists that have tremendous amounts of talent and no doubt deserve the props they are getting. However, at what expense to the ears of the nation? Sadly enough, it seems there’s no getting away from the horrid music, so I will continue to hate as much as I want.
