Pre-Halloween show thrives through the changes

By Claire Ruggiero

It’s October. To students at Naperville North, that means costumes, candy, and – most importantly – Halloween shows.

To upper-classmen who were around for the first one, the Pre-Halloween Show has won a special spot in their hearts, and rightfully so.

The Pre-Halloween Show typically consists of a handful of student bands coming together at some (unlucky) kid’s basement or garage, and a whole bunch of rowdy kids in crazy costumes.

If that doesn’t sound like a good time to you, you’ve obviously never been.

However, some important changes occurred this year that may have affected how well the Pre-Halloween Show was accepted this time around.

Because some prominent senior bands graduated last year, this was the time for the younger bands to prove themselves.

These novice bands also brought with them a younger demographic, but filled with the Halloween Show spirits, the underclassmen and upperclassmen moshed like old friends.

The well-known junior band The Wumbologists headlined this year, and as expected, they killed it.

Bands that were new to the Halloween Show scene, such as the female-led Beneath the Skyline, were reported to have been a soothing intermission to the night’s crazy energy.

The Shriekers, a band of mixed ages, proceeded to smash their instruments at the end of their set, and were greeted with shouts of encouragements. I think they’re boneheads.

The show took place two weeks before Halloween, earlier than ever before. This certainly had a toll on the turnout of costumed audience members, which in past times has usually been a healthy bunch. Most did not have costumes ready, so more than a few partying Muggles were in the crowd.

The night’s festivities were cut short when noise complaints led the police to the unfortunate host’s home. Soon the fuzz, and disgruntled parents, had everyone heading home.

The Pre-Halloween Show, excluding some cut lips and foot bruises due to some violent boogying, is the definition of good, clean, sober fun, and is a tradition valued by all grades here at North alike.
