Illinois Fallen Heroes Traveling Memorial Wall coming to NNHS
On Dec. 3, 2018, the 200th birthday of Illinois, Naperville North High School will be hosting the Illinois Fallen Heroes Traveling Memorial Wall.
The purpose of the memorial is to honor the soldiers who have died while serving their country during the Iraq War and Afghanistan War in all forms of active duty. The wall consists of panels that display the names and pictures of 311 fallen soldiers from Illinois, including eight women. It also states each individual’s date of death, hometown in Illinois, military branch and rank.
NNHS Social Studies teacher Tim Johnson was a crucial part in bringing the memorial to the high school, and he believes that students should take advantage of it.
“It’s a time of reflection and it’s a time to think back about people who gave the ultimate sacrifice and service for this nation, but were from Illinois. I think we should be proud of that,” Johnson said.
The display will be open to Naperville North staff and students on Dec. 3 during period 2 through period 7 (8:41 a.m. – 2:14 p.m.) and will be displayed in the west side of the Learning Commons.
