District 203 cancels school for Monday due to heavy snowfall and high winds from Winter Storm Bruce

Naperville District 203 schools were cancelled for Monday, Nov. 26 in the midst of a blizzard warning for DuPage County predicting up to one foot of snow.

The cancellation was announced at 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25 on the official district website as well as through a tweet by Superintendent Dan Bridges.

“After consulting with DuPage County officials and reviewing the forecast all @Naperville203 schools will be closed tomorrow. Check website for additional information. 12 month employees should report to work when it is safe to do so,” Bridges tweeted.

The blizzard warning sent out by The Weather Channel warned that the storm could cause whiteout conditions with winds of up to 45 miles per hour and around 7 to 11 inches of snow. Referred to as “Winter Storm Bruce,” the blizzard is expected to slam the Midwest, from the Great Lakes to northern New England. Travel conditions have proved dangerous beginning on Sunday, ironically the busiest day of the year for travel airlines in the United States, according to Airlines for America.

In Kansas, Winter Storm Bruce has prompted Governor Jeff Colyer to issue a State of Disaster Emergency declaration, according to KCTV5.

For Naperville District 203, students were present in the comments of Dan Bridges’s tweets throughout the night, begging the Superintendent to cancel school and even inviting him to go sledding with the students. Bridges politely declined the offer, and explained that not everyone was able to indulge in the snow day delight.

“Thank[s] for the invite but I still have to work,” Bridges wrote.
