Bad Suns concert brightens a typical Monday

Time and time again, Monday has deemed itself the worst day of the week. We kept that in mind as we purchased tickets to see Bad Suns on Monday, Feb. 9. Together, we set out to change the stigma of the dreaded day.

The air outside was cold, but our excitement distracted us. We had been listening to all of Bad Suns’ songs on repeat after seeing them open for New Politics at their “Everywhere I Go” tour.

Inside the tight venue, 500 people were trying to cram into the room. Fog machines started to fill Lincoln Hall with thick smoke. The lights flashed, the boys walked on and the show began.

They first played “Transpose,” which you’ve probably heard playing in the hall during passing periods. Christo Bowman, the lead singer, passionately strummed his cherry-red guitar and put on a performance that we could already tell had improved since November.

As the show progressed, the band played a variety of songs from both their album, “Language and Perspective,” as well their E.P., “Transpose,” including fan favorites such as “Cardiac Arrest” and “Salt.”

On top of the impressive musical performance, the lights put on a show of their own. The fog around the stage began to light up with every color imaginable.

For us, the highlight of the night occurred when they played our favorite song, “Rearview.” As soon as the crowd recognized the song, the energy in the room amplified and so did Bowman’s charisma.

Since the show was only about an hour long, we were left wanting more. Thankfully, this just gives us an excuse to see them again the next time they come to town.

We were surprised at how easy it was to turn a typical Monday night into a memorable one. The Bad Suns concert certainly brightened up our Monday sunset.
