The District 203 Tigers won the Special Olympics basketball game against the District 204 Eagles on Wednesday, Jan. 21. The Tigers won 28-24 in overtime.

Both Naperville North and Naperville Central students play for the District 203 Tigers. NNHS and NCHS fans packed the contest gym to support their friends and classmates. And at the end of the first half, the Eagles had a two-point lead, making the score 12-10. The Tigers ended regulation play tied 22-22, thanks to NNHS sophomore Anne Hamilton’s last-second, buzzer-beater shot.

Teammate Cooper Mullin said his favorite part of the game was Hamilton’s shot in overtime.

“The most suspenseful part was when overtime began,” Mullin said. “I had no idea what was going to happen.”

But for Hamilton, the best part of the game was “winning and having fun with her teammates.”

Teammate Joey Morton said that the fans who came to support him and the rest of his team made the night. NNHS senior and adaptive P.E. leader Jon Kim cheered on the Tigers with the Dawg Pound.

“It’s just awesome seeing the way their faces light up when they see everyone in the crowd,” Kim said. “Honestly, nothing makes them happier than seeing a packed Dawg Pound. I think it’s just so cool that the North community is so supportive.”
