On Tuesday, Sept. 23, the Naperville North girls varsity tennis team came out with a loss against crosstown rival Naperville Central High School with a score of 3-4.

Even though the team did not win at home last night, senior captain Gabija Treciokaite thought her team played well. She said they still have a few things to work on.

“I think we did pretty well,” Treciokaite said. “We definitely need to keep our heads in the game. A lot of times, we kind of lose it and don’t focus as hard against teams that aren’t as strong throughout our DVC (DuPage Valley Conference).”

Senior captain Olivia Ryan echoed Treciokaite’s feelings regarding the match. She was also very excited about how she and her doubles partner, Treciokaite, played.

“I think we played pretty well coming back from last year,” Ryan said. “We lost to Central twice, once in DVC and once in a home match against them. I think this year we played a lot stronger after playing a year together, and we had more control on our shots and a better strategy.”

Throughout the matches, NNHS tried to stay positive and encourage their teammates, especially in a few of the close matches.

Senior Abbie Boswell agreed with Treciokaite that the team needs to improve upon a few areas in order to prepare for their next match and finish the season strong.

“We played OK,” Boswell said. “There were some chances that we didn’t finish.”

Boswell said the team’s consistency and volleys are the biggest areas needing improvement.

The girls’ next tennis match will be on Thursday, Sept. 25 at NNHS.
