It came down to the wire, but in the end the lady Redhawks were too much for the Huskies of Naperville North to handle. The Huskies suffered a tough 47-42 defeat to the Redhawks in their second crosstown meeting of the year, moving the Huskies to an overall 11-12 on the season.

Senior Laurel Periera got the Huskies off to a hot start, scoring the first 5 points of the game. There were also solid contributions from seniors Cece Pope and Sophia Fumagalli, along with sophomore Lauren Platou. It wasn’t long until the Redhawks fought back. Going into halftime they had the lead 21-18 over the Huskies.

The Redhawks pulled away to start the third quarter, taking a commanding 34-21 lead. The Huskies have been resilient all season, and that didn’t go away during this matchup. The ladies fought back to make it 39-36 with three minutes in the game behind a strong defensive effort from Sadie Jurkovic, who had multiple blocks.

Unfortunately, the Redhawks got the upper hand and they pulled away in the last few minutes. Still, Laurel Periera led all scorers with 17 points on 40% shooting to continue her impressive season.

Overall, the girls have lost three in a row to move their conference record to 5-9. The team hopes to get back on track with a win away against Glenbard North on Feb 9.
