Time out with Lauren Liberio

By Production Coordinator Kevin MacGregor

Senior Lauren Liberio leads the girls varsity swim team as captain. She specializes in the 50 and 100 meter. In the spring, Liberio also competes on the girls varsity water polo team.

Q: When did you first start swimming?

A: I first started swimming when I was about five or six-years-old for my neighborhood pool, and I’ve swam there every summer since. Now, I coach there too. It’s awesome.

Q: What made you decide to join the swim team?

A: Well honestly, my mom signed me up. But, as far as high school season goes, I tore my ACL freshman year. Then, I decided to switch back to water polo and take it more seriously. Water polo and swimming go hand-in-hand at this school so I decided to give it a try. I loved it.

Q: What do you like most about swimming?

A: What I like most about it is that it all comes down to how much you put into the sport. It all comes down to you, and it’s not necessarily a team sport. What you put in is what comes out. I love the family aspect of it too because all the girls are so close. I don’t know what I would do without them.

Q: What do you like least about swimming?

A: Probably the morning practices. We practice about four hours a day. We are the first people to come into the building everyday and the last people to leave. We are working really hard, and it’s definitely mentally challenging. But having good teammates is what gets you through it.

Q: How has your team been doing this season?

A: We’ve been having an OK season. Lots of time-drops, and we are getting ready for our sectional and state season. The girls are looking really ready for that, and I’m really excited to see how we are going to do this season.

Q: What are your goals for this season?

A: Personally, I’d love to just drop [my time] in my 50 and 100 free for DVC so we’ll see.
