On February 3rd, Naperville North will be hosting a community forum in the library in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.
The event will feature a unique and diverse panel constituted of community members, teachers, and students from various ethnic and economic backgrounds. An organizer of this years annual event, Dr. Angel Kalat said that she is glad to see so many people from different ethnicities share their experiences.
“It opens up the perspectives of young people when other members of the community share their opinions and experiences,” said Kalat
Kalat added this forum will cover many topics from peace, social issues, unity, and racially fitting in. She believes this helps both the students and members of the community gain perspective on how their ethnicities have changed from generation to generation. Kalat is very excited to see that so many students actively participate.
“I think its awesome to see students share their opinions and perspectives,” said Kalat. “It takes a lot of courage to open up to the community like that”
This forum will not only feature students, but a large number of community representatives. These community members include an upper class such as CEO’s and executives from different companies that will share how they achieved success despite being racially different.
The Martin Luther King Forum will be held at 6:30pm in the library, and anyone is welcome to come and share their own personal experiences and opinions.
