The first part of “Wednesday” Season two premiered on Netflix on August 6th, with the second part releasing on September 3rd. The new season continues Wednesday’s journey at Nevermore, delivering more plot twists and scares that thrilled audiences in the first season.
Unlike the previous season, the new season opens with Wednesday’s summer excursion where she hunts down a notorious serial killer, the Kansas City Scalper. Even though the plotline is brief, it’s essential, highlighting her issues with her clairvoyant visions and the toll of overusing her psychic powers. Then, the season continues by showing the Addams family heading to Nevermore. However, there’s an exciting twist: Wednesday’s brother, Pugsley, will be joining her, along with her parents, who will live in the house that Ms. Thornhill occupied in season one.
The rest of the season follows the chilling themes that viewers fell in love within season one. But one big difference is the amount of overlapping storylines. In the previous season, viewers only had one main plot, which was Wednesday learning how to socialize and adjusting to a new school, as well as figuring out the mystery behind the Hyde. Yet, in this new season, there were so many different plots happening simultaneously that it was hard to keep up at times.
First, there are Wednesday’s own issues with her power, which are also caused by her isolation from her mother. She distances herself from Morticia, her mother, because she wants to take full advantage of her powers so she can find answers even when she is not ready for them. This causes Morticia to take her powers away which causes further tension between them. Luckily, through their navigation of hardships and near-death experiences, their relationship seems to heal by the end of the season, and Wednesday regains her visions.
Another major storyline is Pugsley’s first year at Nevermore. In his story, the audience is introduced to one of the main monsters in the season: “Slurp”. Slurp is a zombie that Pugsley resurrected through his electric power. Originally, Pugsley kept Slurp trapped on a chain, but before long, and quite predictably, Slurp escaped and went on a murderous rampage. With every brain he consumed, he became more and more human until it became clear that he wasn’t any ordinary dead person; Slurp was actually Isaac Night. Night had attended nevermore but died in a laboratory explosion.
The third storyline is the Galpin family, a continuation from the first season where it was revealed that Tyler Galpin was the violent Hyde who had gone on a killing spree. After Wednesday had helped to capture him, he ended up in Willow Hill Psychiatric Hospital. After Wednesday comes to investigate Willow Hill, a problem occurs, and Tyler is let out along with the rest of Willow Hill’s patients. Viewers eventually find out that among these patients is Francoise Galpin, Tyler’s (thought to be dead) mother. It is also in this chaos that Tyler kills his master, Marilyn Thornhill. The audience is floored again because it is shown that Isaac Night is actually Francoise’s brother, and they are all reunited. However, without a master, Tyler’s health deteriorates rapidly. Therefore, his mom ends up becoming his master to save him. After all of this is squared away, the Galpin family ends up conceiving a plan to kill Wednesday and use Pugsley. The plan seems to almost work, but with the help of Enid Sinclair, Wednesday’s best friend, and their parents, both Wednesday and Pugsley make it out alive, and both Francoise and her brother die.
There were story lines that were not finished, most likely to be resolved in future seasons:
- Where Did the Crows Go?
At the beginning of the season, there are murderous crows that seem to have an intention to their kills, with one being the sheriff, Donavan Galpin. However, as the season advances, that storyline seems to be lost, only making an appearance at the very end.
2. Who is Wednesday’s Aunt Ophelia?
Throughout the season, her character is mentioned a decent amount, but it only leaves the viewers with more questions. Then, one of the last clips shows her being locked in Wednesday’s grandma’s basement with the word “Wednesday Must Die” painted behind her, leaving viewers shocked and perplexed.
3. What Will Happen to Enid Sinclair?
She is Wednesday’s roommate/best friend. Although this season does explore her relationship issues with both boys and her friendship with Wednesday, the main storyline is her progress with her powers. It is revealed to viewers that Enid is an Alpha wolf and therefore cannot go outside during a full moon, or her wolf form becomes permanent. However, to save Wednesday’s life, she transitions, even though it’s a full moon, and all viewers see is Enid running away. In the last episode, the viewers get to see what Wednesday is going to look for, which almost guarantees this storyline will be continued in future seasons. They will likely also find out where Tyler went and what he will do now that his master is dead again.
This newest season was very interesting, there were so many story lines, and it will be interesting to see which ones will appear in future seasons. Hopefully, next season will be clearer for audiences to follow along and still have the spooky appeal that has carried on for the first two seasons.
