Henry Haumesser, a junior on the Naperville North Boys’ Varsity Golf team, is essential to the program’s breakout success this year.
Nearly two weeks ago, on September 11th, the NNHS Boys’ Varsity Golf team met their school record when playing against Nequa Valley, finishing six under par.
Although Golf is often perceived as a solo sport, Henry wouldn’t be the number one seed without his team. For Haumesser, his drive for success does not only come from himself, but his coaches Ryan Hantak and Jason Dycus who push and motivate him through any challenge he faces.
“Hantak and Dycus have been awesome… They’re keeping us accountable, making sure we’re going to practice, and they’re really inspiring us to go out there every day and play our hardest,” Haumesser said.
Haumesser’s career in Huskie Golf started off rough. While preparing for his freshman season, a golf cart ran over his foot, resulting in a severe foot contusion that ended the rest of his season. Haumesser is the perfect example of Huskie Athletic’s main philosophy: to persevere through adversity. With hard work, rehab and consistent training, Haumesser qualified for sectionals his first year back in action. Now, Haumesser is Boys’ Golf is “number one” according to Hantak.
“Over the last couple of years, he’s worked on his game a ton, put a great amount of effort into it, a great amount of time and dedication, and it showed. He’s improved drastically,” Hantak said.
The Naperville North Boys’ Varsity Golf team is turning into an ultimate powerhouse, crushing records left and right. Being undefeated in the DuPage Valley Conference, and eventually being named the conference champions, Haumesser wants the Huskies to aim for a state title.
“I think we all want to bring back a state championship… our big goal is just to get down there, have some experience, and then next year go out there and bring home the trophy,” Haumesser said.
