The Naperville North High School varsity girls volleyball team defeated Plainfield Central High School on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

The Huskies (33-3) defeated the Wildcats (13-18) after North dominated two sets.

The first set started off rocky for the girls, but they soon gained momentum, finishing the set 25-9. The team effectively communicated with each other on strong hits and blocks needed to make the set successful. Senior captain Paige Lauterwasser describes the team’s successful preparation for approaching this game and for future games.

“We’ve been watching a lot of film on both teams […] we’ve played [both teams] previously in the season so we kinda know their tendencies and who they normally go to,” Lauterwasser said.

The second set started and ended strong for the girls with a final score of 25-11. Despite strong defensive and offensive showings from the Wildcats early in the set, the Huskies pulled through to carry on their triumphant record. Junior Simona Kapustova discusses how the Huskies’ team dynamic continued through not only the second set, but throughout the whole match as well.

“Getting closer as a team has really helped us a lot, I feel like everything we’ve been putting together on the court has been showing up. Putting all our teamwork and mental preparation in has really worked, too,” Kapustova said.

The Huskies hope to continue their strong performance for the rest of the playoff season. Senior Shelby Erickson discusses the goal for the rest of the season.

“We came in with a really great mentality that we need to go win five games then go to state, and I feel like this (game) was one check of the box. We’re excited to see who we play next,” Erickson said.

The team is set to play their next playoff game on Thursday, Oct. 27 against Plainfield North High School. The game is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. at Naperville North.
