The Huskie football season ended victoriously at home Friday night against DeKalb.

The Huskies (2-1) played a tight game against the Barbs (2-3) and eventually managed to secure a win late in the game by a score of 40-34.

The Huskies struggled to stop a Barb touchdown early in the game, and tensions were high going into the second quarter tied 7-7. Despite many impressive plays by the defensive line, the team entered the second half down 28-14. During the third quarter however, the Huskies continued to fight on and were able to contain the Barbs quick running game. Junior running back Ethan Robert was a huge part of the Huskies offense success, and kept the momentum flowing for the rest of his team.

“I just wanted to play my heart out, it was our last game so I had to leave it all out on the field. I just wanted to play as hard as I could,” Robert said.

The pressure was on for the Huskies, who struggled in the beginning of the second half. They started to claw their way back into the game late in the fourth quarter when sophomore Aiden Gray scored to tie the game with just over four minutes left. With the clock ticking down, Gray ran in a touchdown with just eight seconds to spare, securing the win.

“I knew it wasn’t going to be easy, all credits to our offensive line, it was just sticking to it all game and not giving up,” Gray laughed.

Tonight’s win was not just the only home game of the season, but also senior night for the football team, cheer squad, dance team, color guard and marching band. Senior Captain Adam Sturtz is proud of how his team came together to overcome challenges for his last season at NNHS.

“It was a tough season but I loved every minute of it, we didn’t have as many games as everyone wanted to with this senior group, but we took what we were given and we made the most of it,” Sturtz said.
