Huskies pick up important win against rival Naperville Central
The Huskie girls basketball team picked up a close win to end the regular season undefeated in conference play.
The Naperville North Huskies (20-5, 7-0) defeated the Naperville Central Redhawks (18-10, 5-2) by a final score of 49-48 on Friday night.
The Huskies were down early and trailed throughout most of the game, but in the fourth quarter, they picked up the intensity, hitting clutch three-pointers and free throws to come out victorious against the Redhawks. Junior Greta Kampschroeder led the way for the Huskies with 18 points. Kampschroeder attributed most of their success to their mentality after being down early.
“This a team [Central] that’s gonna hit us and we just have to hit back. We just had to make cleaner passes and play good defense. We did do that. We executed well and we were able to get back in our rhythm,” Kampschroeder said.
Head coach Erin Colletti thinks her team performed well under the pressure that comes with a rivalry game. She was also very proud of her team’s grit and determination throughout the game.
“Basketball is a game of highs and lows and we want to maintain our highs as long as we can,” Colletti said. “But there will be some lows and we just gotta dig ourselves out of that and go back to the trust of the game plan.”
The Huskies will play their next game on Feb. 11 at Dekalb High School.
