Naperville North’s girls basketball team kicked off their holiday tournament with a loss to the highly-rated Bolingbrook Raiders Wednesday night.

The Naperville North Huskies (5-5,2-0) were defeated by the Bolingbrook Raiders (6-2, 1-0) by a final score of 50-39.

The Huskies were without junior guard Nikki Kwilosz, who is out for the season with a torn ACL, and head coach Jason Dycus is looking for the team to collectively replace her 10 points per game.

“Well we have to find someone to take Nikki’s spot and help Kara [and Greta] handle the ball because we’re missing that,” Dycus said. “We’re going to do that systemically, bring our offense up a little bit higher and shorten our passes within 12 feet and if teams want to trap, we reverse the ball and will be attacking.”

Even without Kwilosz, the Huskies hung with the Raiders for the first half, going into halftime down 19-17. Bolingbrook opened the second half with a large run, picking up ball handlers full-court. The Huskies couldn’t get into their offense and are looking to adjust before playing highly-ranked Benet on Saturday.

“We just [need to be] more composed on offense, I think some people get panicked and they freak out a little bit, especially against tough defense, they get up in your grill, you have to compose yourself and move the ball,” Kampschroeder, who had a team-high 24 points, said. “If we learn to do that, [and to] just kind of relax and not freak out, we will be fine.”

The Huskies will continue their holiday tournament against Benet Academy (11-2, 1-0) this Saturday, and will complete the round robin tournament by playing York (9-3, 4-1) on Friday, Dec. 21. Both games are set to begin at 7:30 P.M.
