The Huskie girls volleyball team were led by their offense en route to a win in their first round of the playoffs over Lemont High School on Tuesday night.

The Naperville North Huskies (29-6, 6-2) defeated the Lemont Indians (21-16, 12-1) by a final score of 25-16, 25-8.

North’s offense led the way for the Huskies in the first set, getting to an eight point lead and forcing the Indians to use their first timeout. Sarah Kushner kept the momentum in the Huskies’ favor and led North to their first set victory, 25-16.

Despite being a higher seed in the playoffs than Lemont, senior captain Molly Russell said that the seeding didn’t change their mindset coming into the game.

“We just come in and play our game and focus on what’s happening on our side of the net,” Russell said. “We always play at the pace that works for us and don’t worry about what’s going on on their side of the net.”

The second set proceeded similar to the first, but this time, the Huskie defense stood out. The offense kept rolling, and the Lemont offense struggled mightily to score. The Huskies were all over the court, and held the Indians to just eight points in the second set, as the Huskies won 25-8.

The Huskies will play the Neuqua Valley Wildcats in the next round, and they are looking forward to their third matchup against the Wildcats this season. The Wildcats are the only team that defeated the Huskies during conference play this season.

“They have a really good hitter and we are going to work around her, both on offense and on defense,” Russell said. “We are still going to go in and play our game, and we’ll be well prepared.”

The Huskies and Wildcats will face off in the Regional Finals on Thursday night at NNHS, with the match starting at 6:00 P.M.
