Huskie girls soccer offense explodes in win agianst Glenbard North
The Naperville North girls soccer team entered their game at Glenbard North Tuesday night looking for a bounce-back win following their double-overtime loss to Glenbrook South last Friday.
They got it, and then some.
The Naperville North Huskies (6-2-3) defeated the Glenbard North Panthers (1-0-5) by a final score of 8-0.
The Huskies started the game hot, with senior captains Shaina Dudas and Katelynn Buescher finding the back of the net three times within the first 15 minutes.
“I think for us it was just a attitude change,” Dudas said. “We just have to go into every game thinking that it’s going to be a really tough team, we did that and it benefited us tonight.”
Opening the game strong has been a focal point for Head Coach Steve Goletz lately, and it showed Tuesday as the Huskies put the game away early.
“We always talk about trying to set the tone within the first 10 minutes of the game. Not even scoring goals, but being first to the ball, being the more aggressive team,” Goletz said. “Tonight, we were able to get three early goals, which can kill the morale of the other team. It doesn’t really give them a chance to get in the game.”
The Huskies were just as strong on the defensive side of the ball. The backline made it very difficult for the Panthers to advance the ball, leading to the Huskies’ sixth shutout of the season under goalies Maddie Hausmann and Amanda Johnson.
“Our backline is really strong and they were working really well together,” Buescher said. “Part of it was just keeping possession, and then when we did win the ball it [became] finding people’s feet and moving forward as a team and not giving it away.”
The Huskies now look forward to the Naperville Invitational Tournament, which spans over the next 10 days. Their first match is against Lyons Township Thursday at 8 p.m.
“Lyons Township is a very good team. We are going to have to play even better than we did tonight to come out on top,” Goletz said.
