Fall fashion essentials

As the season changes, so does your wardrobe. The unpredictable weather forces you to choose between staying warm or dressing in style. However, with these six fall essentials, you will be warm throughout the season without having to sacrifice your look.

  1. A pullover sweater

When the leaves start to fall and the temperature begins to drop, a pullover can be a lifesaver. Dress them up with a close-knit style or wear a bulkier knit for those days when you want to cozy up and watch your favorite Halloween classic. Throw on one of these sweaters with a pair of leggings and boots and you’re out the door.

2. Scarves

An essential accessory for the fall, scarves come in a variety of patterns, colors and fabrics. For the colder months, finding warmer scarves rather than sheer ones is recommended: although they tend to be more expensive, you get more bang for your buck. A good place to shop for scarves is a flea market, where you can find hand-knitted scarves, perfect for fall, at a cheap price.

3. Long sleeved tees

This one is pretty self-explanatory, but long sleeved tees are perfect for layering. These trendy tees will keep you warm while adding depth to your fall outfit. Buying them in solid colors such as gray and black makes them useful for layering. Pairing your long sleeved tees with a vest or cardigan is a sure way to stay on trend this season.

4. Boots and socks

With all the different styles, heights and colors when it comes to boots, it can be hard to pick the right pair for you. It is important to choose a pair that will make you feel comfortable. If you tend to do a lot of walking, pick a pair with a short heel. If you want a more stylish boot to wear to school, pick an ankle-high or mid-calf boot. Knee-high boots tend to be harder to walk in, so only make this purchase if you know you have several events you can wear them too–otherwise they are not worth the splurge.

5. Leggings and tights

These two fall essentials come in a variety of patterns and colors. For leggings that will last all season, you’ll want to invest in a thicker pair. Although these tend to be much pricier than the regular leggings, you won’t have to keep purchasing new ones. Tights are perfect for those days when you still want to wear your favorite skirt or dress. Just throw on tights underneath and accessorize with a pair of boots and you’ve turned your summer favorites into fall must-haves.

6. Dark makeup

Once fall arrives many people tend to start to wear darker shades of makeup. One of these students is junior Christina Provenzano.

“In the fall I tend to wear the color maroon or other dark colors, especially on the eyes and lips because I want those features to be the highlight of my face,” Provenzano said.

If you are not brave enough to pull off the smokey eye, try wearing a tinted chapstick to give your face a slightly bolder look.
