Auto Show returns to Naperville North

Four years ago, students’ cars lined the Naperville North High School bus lot as students buzzed about enjoying music, food and of course, the array of cars. With everything from muscle cars to off-road vehicles, the NNHS Auto Show was a success.

After a two year break, senior Mason Gillett is eager to bring the Auto Show back to NNHS this year.

“I helped out with the Auto Show my freshman year,” Gillett said. “However, they didn’t have enough people to run it the past two years. It was my senior year, and I took the initiative.”

Starting as a Homecoming week tradition, the Auto Show attracted a larger group of students than other popular events. Although it used to be a crowd pleaser, the show began to attract less students as years passed due to weather difficulty. According to dean of student activities Jennifer Baumgartner, the Auto Show has been able to return by the help of Gillett.

“[Mason] was the man in charge,” Baumgartner said. “He was very organized getting the kids to get involved and handled everything. He made it happen.”

The Auto Show will take place in the NNHS bus lot on Thursday, April 23 during lunch periods. Gillett plans to have food provided along with various sponsors such as the Universal Technical Institute, the Marines and Army and possibly Eurotech, a construction company. The event will feature many cars in various categories including the ugliest cars, luxury cars, loudest car stereo and turbo cars.

“I am most excited to see the turbo section,” Gillett said. “We’ll have six turbo cars there, and they’re definitely the most unique.”

Senior Nick Bouckaert will showcase his Chevy Silverado 2500 in the Auto Show. As a car aficionado, he cannot wait to be in the show.

“It was a good way to show people my passion for cars,” Bouckaert said. “I am very excited to see what other people have done to their cars or trucks to make them original.”

Gillet said there will be inflatable rides and live band followed by a DJ to entertain those who attend the show.
