Throwback baby one more time

Student Government hosts first Throwback Dance

From the Backstreet Boys to N’ Sync, get ready to relive your childhood this Friday, Jan. 9 for the first-ever ‘Throwback Dance.’

Hosted by Student Government, the dance will feature music and clothing from the ’90s and early 2000s, as well as student DJs. Student Government vice president Jonathan Kim looks forward to introducing this dance to NNHS.

“In the past, we’ve really just stuck to the same tradition dances,” Kim said. “We wanted to bring something new to the table and have kids re-energized for school.”

According to Kim, the idea for the dance was proposed last year by seniors Michael Sun and Anna Mandarino. Student Government wanted to create another event for second semester that would not only be enjoyed by the students, but would also give back to the community.

Although Student Government has not decided on an organization to donate to yet, they are strongly thinking of contributing to the dance funds to the Student Government grant process.

“Student Government runs a grant process. Last year, we donated a couple thousand dollars to various clubs and organizations at North,” Sun said. “We’re really hoping to use this dance to fund our budget to continue that.”

The Throwback Dance will feature senior Yasha Mostofi and senior Jalen Smith as student DJs. According to Sun, this will be the first Student Government event that will be run by student DJs.

“Yasha usually DJs for us during Spring Week, and he’s great,” Kim said. “Yasha and Jalen are going to take recommendations from all the ‘Stud Govers’ and make a mix for the dance.”

Students also had the option of recommending a song through Twitter.

“I’m really looking forward to wearing my ’90s costume to school,” Kim said. He will be sporting his nylon track jacket.

The dance will take place on Friday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Small Cafe. Tickets are $3 each with a student ID.
