Girls varsity basketball defeats Plainfield Central Wildcats

On Monday, Dec. 15, Naperville North’s girls basketball (8-3) team took home a 53-47 victory against the Plainfield Central Wildcats.

In the first half, the Huskies fought hard to obtain a 33-13 lead. Head coach Jason Dycus was proud of how his team performed, especially after playing multiple games over the weekend.

“After having a multitude of games in the Christmas tournament, we came out tonight and got the what we wanted,” Dycus said. “Plainfield Central battled hard, and we played every girl on our bench. That helps our overall program and that’s what we want.”

In the second half, Dycus made sure that all the players got off the bench. The game ended 53-47 in the Huskies favor.

“We have to work on defense, and we have to get tougher. I think we shared the ball really well,” Dycus said. “We are an unselfish team, especially offensively. But I think if we can learn to help each other defensively. We can maybe go to the next level, but until we do that, we will be right where we are at.”

Junior Cece Pope thought the team overall played well, but she said they still need to work on the defensive aspect of the game.

“We did well and we worked together,” Pope said. “We could’ve done better, but we definitely picked it up. We are going to work on our help-line defense because they did get a lot of wide open lay ups so that is our main focus right now.”

Senior Caleigh Corbett thought that the team needed to work on control and passing for their next game.

“I think we need to have more control,” Corbett said. “For example, our passing was a little out of control and we kind of rushed shots where we could’ve slowed it down and taken more control of the game on offense.”

The Huskies compete against the final four competitors in the Benet Christmas Tournament next weekend.
