After finishing with 18 wins last season, the Naperville North girls varsity basketball team is expecting to have another outstanding season. They have been working hard to adjust their game. This year, young and upcoming players were brought in to further improve the team.
Head coach Jason Dycus said the team has quite a few new additions that will allow them to advance further in the playoffs this season.
“I think that our experience could really help us this year,” Dycus said. “We had two departing seniors last year, and I think, with the experienced group we have this year, we are really hoping for bigger and better things. The girls are really practicing hard, and they seem to be a fun group to coach so far.”
Senior guard Olivia Stapleton is excited to see what the next season has in store for the team.
“Last year, I think we came out and surprised a lot of people,” Stapleton said. “We definitely had a great record last year, and I think we are probably going to do a lot better too.”
Senior forward Chloe O’Dekirk said that the team must push each other to get better.
“We definitely need to adjust some of our plays,” O’Dekirk said. “I think that we have good team chemistry, but we just have to make sure that we keep pushing ourselves to do better every single day, embracing the new people on the team and finding a way to fill the spots of those who left.”
Senior point guard Caleigh Corbett is looking forward to finishing out her last season with her team.
“Since it’s my senior year, I am most looking forward to our team atmosphere, how our games go and our season just in general and to watch us evolve,” Corbett said. “I think that will be super interesting.”
The Huskies will have their first game of the season on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 2:30 p.m. at Waubonsie Valley High School for the WVHS Warhawk tournament.
