Boys golf ends a successful season
Naperville North’s boys golf team went 4-1 in the DuPage Valley Conference (DVC) and placed third for the tournament.
The boys performed exceptionally well this year, especially senior captain Griffin Brown. He qualified for the IHSA state tournament.
“We definitely did better than I expected,” Brown said. “We came off of last year where no one went to state, and that was the first time in a long time. I kind of wanted to get redemption this season. We definitely fulfilled the expectation and more.”
Brown was the only golfer from NNHS who qualified for the IHSA state tournament, where he was ranked in the top 50 of 120 players.
“My experience at state was pretty awesome,” Brown said. “It has always been a goal of mine for the past four years at North just to make it down state as I watched NNHS alum Ray Knoll develop as a player at North. Obviously, he is a star, not only at North but in the state as well. I kind of wanted to follow in his footsteps and represent North at state.”
Brown said he will miss being a varsity golfer when the season resumes without the graduating seniors next year.
“I think [the team is] going to be solid again,” Brown said. “We have Tyler Vincent, who’s a great player, and we have Brendan Bond and Connor Ladone, both great players and good leaders too. They’ll have the leadership aspect, and they’ll have talent too.”
