“The North Star” caught up with Senior Cara LaBelle earlier in the week to talk about the upcoming Girls Basketball season. Last season, the Huskies scored over 500 points, and LaBelle looks to keep the fast paced offense coming this season.

Q: What’s the best thing about your sport?
A: Probably when you’re actually playing, and you get this basketball high. That’s all you can think about, and it’s nice to break away from the world for a little bit and just play.

Q: What’s the worst thing about your sport?
A: I would say conditioning, but it helps us out in the end. So, probably the worst thing is losing. It’s just an awful feeling when you try your hardest but it wasn’t good enough.

Q: How far do you want to go with your sport?
A: Well, I want to be a doctor when I grow up so in college I can’t really play basketball. This is probably my last year.

Q: What’s the most important contribution you make to your team?
A: I have a strong leadership personality so that’s what I give off. I also keep things light. If our coach yells at us or something, I can just help laugh it off, sort of.

Q: How have you evolved as an athlete over the years?
A: Freshman year, I used to try to find the easiest way out of anything. I was that kid to ask to go to the bathroom when running started. But now, it’s like you just [have to] stick it out and go for it. You can’t cheat your team out of it.

Q: What coaches and/or mentors have inspired you over the years?
A: Probably Coach Hantak and Coach Cattell. [Cattell] started playing basketball, I think in her 8th grade year, and she made it up to D1 in college. And she’s really good. I just think that’s really awesome, how she worked her hardest, and she started playing later than anyone else, and how she knows what she’s talking about.
