NNHS is hosting its very first Harvest Day Celebration on October 4th from 4-6 PM, according to Special Education Department Chair Katie Genovesi.
The special needs students at North, as well as the Horticulture Club, have devoted the past year towards making the garden a significant part of the school building, according to Genovesi.
“Special education uses [the garden] for students to have a vocational job,” Genovesi said. “And [the students] absolutely love it.”
The garden, which is located across from the bus lot, will be complete by October 4th and will be open to all students and staff from then on, according to Genovesi.
“I’d like to see that our kids have a functional job in our building,” Genovesi said. “It’s nice to have a place that our students can go to work with their hands and get outside.”
In addition, some of the science, foods, and various other classes are invited to use the garden as an outdoor classroom.
‘It’s never been done before,” Genovesi said. “But the staff and students that have worked out there have made [the garden] into a great place to be.”
An edible garden will open on October 4th at Beebe Elementary School as well.
