Hit the bike trails to enjoy fall

By Brielle Keane

With Fall, comes great natural beauty.  Biking has become an antiquated mode of transportation, as most high school students have earned the right and the credentials to drive a car.  However, something is lost when driving around the block. There is something magical about peddling through nature’s own paths.  These are the best places to do just that.

The Top 5 biking paths in Naperville:

  1. DuPage River Park- DuPage has recently redone their trails and it now offers a scenic route and shaded areas on the 9 miles bike path. With different trails and options in the park alone it gives bikers the option of going for a competitive or relaxing bike ride.
  2. Blackwell- Bikers have the option at Blackwell to enjoy more than 6 miles of turf and limestone trails. There is even two observation decks around the McKee Marsh and if your in for a challenge you can give a go at the famous Blackwell hill where you can often find runners running up and down the treacherous slope.
  3. Spring brook Prairie Path- The trails stay to the perimeter which gives the visitors extra privacy to view the wildlife it offers. 7 miles are open to bicyclists and two more miles of narrow, mowed trails allow visitors a closer look at nature. The trails are also wide open so if you’re looking for a tan, this is the trail for you.
  4. Herrick Lake in Wheaton- Bicyclers can enjoy more than 5 miles of trail connecting the parking lot to the picnic grounds and the trailhead. Additional trails can also cut through the southern and central parts of Herrick Lake and are clearly marked. After done with biking you are able to fish and picnic for a nice day at a lake.
  5. McDowell Forest Preserve- McDowell has 7 miles of limestone trials and turf trails. The trails connect to the Regional Trial, which also connects with four other preserves. McDowell also offers a nice river to dip your feet into or have a relaxing day just hanging by the water. Definitely a great place to spend a day outdoors.
