This year’s student-staff homecoming basketball game proved to be an entertaining game that went to the staff after a valiant come-from-behind effort by the students fell short.

The NNHS faculty (1-0) defeated the NNHS student body (0-1) by a final score of 100-56.

Student body Head Coach Michael Bruebach had a game plan laid out for his team to execute, but due to a lack of available players it became difficult to succeed late in the game.

“I was unaware that we wouldn’t be able to bring some players out due to their commitments in other sports,” Bruebach said. “It led to fatigue during the second half and it showed on the scoreboard.”

Eligible to play in this game was sophomore point guard Greta Kampschroeder, who thought that the game was lost on the glass.

“I think we could have won if we had practiced beforehand, but we were definitely outsized with the rebounding tonight,” Kampschroeder said.

After a sudden lift in points that scorekeepers Jake Snedic and Tim Madden gave to the student body, the score suddenly became 100-94 with 11 seconds left. After senior Netzah Aldana hit a quick three to pull the game within three, the students were unable to foul, ending their chance at a comeback.

Homecoming week has a few events still to come, including Mr. NNHS tomorrow night, homecoming assemblies on Friday and the homecoming dance this Saturday.
