By Staff Writer John Conway
Production by Emily Hillier

This week, “The North Star” met up with sophomore Erika Climo, varsity gymnast for the girls gymnastics team. Though at times during the season a long-standing elbow injury limited her ability to compete in all of her events, Climo posted strong scores on beam and floor throughout the season. This past weekend, Climo competed beam in the state meet at Palatine High School.

Q: What’s the best thing about your sport?

Story continues below advertisement

A: I think the best thing about my sport is being able to be part of a team. We have so many good days and bad days at practice; it’s nice to know your teammates are there for you.

Q: What’s the worst thing about your sport?

A: Definetly the injuries and having to deal with them twenty-four seven.

Q: How far are you looking to take your sport outside of school?

A: If I can stay healthy and not have another major injury, I’d love to do it in college.

Q: What important contributions do you make to your team?

A: I think my work ethic at practice has definitely helped me do better and score well for the team this year at competitions.

Q: How have you evolved as an athlete over the years?

A: I’ve definitely learned to become more dedicated, and to focus on what I can do, and not what I can’t do.

Q: What coaches and mentors have guided you through the years?

A: Stano has definitely helped me this year, especially because this was my first year on the [NNHS]  gymnastics team. Also, some of my club coaches [have helped me].
